Guess What!!!

Our summer is coming to a close! It feels like this summer has been busier than last and I think that it has. We have had three weeks of church camp, done little league baseball concessions, a week of vacation, been to the Free Will Baptist National Convention and a mission trip to Mexico. This post is very picture heavy since it has been a month since our last update! Hope you enjoy seeing where we have been! We started this month by going to Sarah's 3rd birthday party. I can not begin to tell you how much Lukas loves being around Sarah and Avi Joy. He talks about them often, even though we don't get to see each other too often. The birthday kiss!We went to the river with my family for vacation. I guess Luke was afraid that we were going to leave him and thought he would jump in Nana's suit case!Daddy took Luke down a big slide that went into the river. Luke was quite the trooper, but decided he didn't want to do that anymore.Playing with cousins. When we got back from the river we went to a concert with the Homan's at Utica Square. Luke and Sarah had a great time sharing snacks while we visited. It was a little late, but before we left Nana and Papa's we popped some of those Pop-Its. That was my favorite when I was a kid and Luke liked them too!The next week was Bible School. We hit the ground running after vacation. I was the co-director of Bible School so we had lots of things to get done when we got home. We did Veggie Tales and Luke had a blast all week. The next week was the Free Will Baptist National Convention in Charleston, West Virginia. Our little man is quite the traveler. He loves to fly. He was great while we were there. There was a mall across the street from the Convention Center. We spent quite a bit of time over there riding rides. Luke also stayed the night two nights in Nana and Papa's hotel room. This was the first time that I haven't slept under the same room as him. We both survived! :)
Funny story - Two college age girls went with us. One night one of the girls was staying the night with a friend, so after church we decided we would take Stacie to the movies. The movie theatre was 10 blocks from our hotel. We decided to see The Dark Night. The movie was really good. The only thing was the movie ended at 12:30 and we had to walk those 10 blocks back to our hotel in the dark. Stacie and I were SO scared. So the point of the story is The Dark Night is a good movie, but I would not recommend watching it when you have to walk 10 blocks in the dark. After Nationals we got to stay home for a week. We left on August 2nd to head to OKC. Our flight left early on the 3rd so we stayed the night in OKC. Daniel and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary on the 3rd while flying to Harlingen, TX with our youth ministry. It was so very romantic. I really don't mind sharing my anniversary though because at least 40 people received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Who would have thought that a guy in our youth ministry would want to wear my sling. It was pretty funny!
Luke stomping trash at the Way of the Cross Warehouse while we are making kits to hand out. Our students crossed the border on Monday and Tuesday. I stayed back at the head quarters with Luke.On Monday they went to the dump. It was a very eye opening experience for our kids. I really think that they have a better appreciation for the things that they have. They also went into a neighborhood on Monday. They knocked on doors and invited people to a church service.I think that the children were our kids highlight of the week. On Tuesday they went to a shark fishing village on the beach.

Wednesday they crossed the border and went shopping. Then they came and picked me and Luke up and we went to South Padre Island.
It's been a great summer, but I'm ready for things to slow down for a little while! Stayed tuned for next weeks post. We celebrate our 2nd Forever Family Day with Lukas next week!

Finally, An Update!!!

I have been dreading updating our blog because it has been so long and so much has happened. It's pretty bad when you have to look back at your pictures to remember what has happened during the last month. Hear goes... Daniel was an evangelist at a church camp the week of Memorial Day, so Luke and I headed to Tulsa to spend the holiday with family. We were able to spend Monday at Granny's and Grandma & James'.Luke loves these cars at Granny's house. They used to be my uncles cars, so that is pretty neat. These two keep Granny pretty busy. Kayla and Luke had so much fun together that Granny and Kayla came to our house about a week later and spent four nights.Playing in the sprinkler is just one of the things that Kayla and Luke did during their visit to our house.Church camp came after Granny and Kayla went home. It was a really great week.Yes, this is my husband...Enough said. Camp always proves to be a life changing experience for our students. It is always amazing watching God work in the lives of our students.Luke hung out with Nana and Papa the whole week of camp. Why would you want mom & dad when nana & papa are around? He had a blast! We left camp with Nana and Papa Thursday evening after service to head to Tulsa for Vietnam Heritage Weekend. We were able to celebrate Father's Day with Papa. Vietnam Heritage Camp was so much fun. Luke got to hang out with his buddies. He got to meet Ella also!He had a great time doing all the crafts on Saturday.Although, he didn't quite know what to think about the red hand business. We took our first swim of the summer this past Wednesday. We have a little fish on our hands. Luke had even more fun than he did last summer. We have quite a few water trips planned so that is a good thing! We went to Hallie's b-day party at McDonald's this past weekend. Luke thought that it was pretty cool going to a party at McD's. When he woke up on Sunday morning the first words out of his mouth were "Where's the cake!". He's convinced that it is time for his birthday. He has already requested Lightning McQueen. We'll see what is in the works come October.
I hope all of this has made sense. It is now 1:50 a.m. I'm signing off and going to bed. Right after I load and start the dishwasher. Good Night!

Mothers Day, Senior Week, Carnival and Graduation

We have been pretty busy since my last update. Nana, Papa and Aunt Jen came in during Mother's Day Weekend.
Luke made me a picture frame for Mother's Day when Nana, Papa and Aunt Jen kept him while we were at the Acquire the Fire Youth Conference. Saturday Papa took Luke to the park and to McDonald's while Nana, Aunt Jen and I went to a Mother/Daughter tea at church.
Baccaleaureate (I know I didn't spell that right) service was Mother's Day evening. In the city that we live in the seniors have what is referred to as "Senior Week". So basically from the b-thing to graduation, which is the next Sunday, they party every evening. We had let the teens in our youth ministry know that they were welcome at our house instead of going to these parties. So they termed their week "Sober Week". I am way too old for staying up until 2:30 am and being able to function the next day. Needless to say, we have all been staying up too late and watching way too many scary movies for my taste. I can't talk our teenage boys into watching a chick flick with me! :)
This week the carnival came to our big town! We went Saturday night. We all had so much fun!!! Watching Luke's big ol' cheesy grin was so worth the outrageous amount of money that we spent.
All three of us rode the farris wheel together. As we were standing in line Daniel reminded me that he was afraid of heights. I think I would have been fine if we would have had some form of seat belt on, but we didn't. Daniel and I were so ready to get off that thing. Luke absolutely loved it! (By the way, it cost $12 for us to ride that thing.)

We have gone to two different graduations. We had a student graduating from a small town outside of where we live. We went to that graduation Friday evening. And our town's graduation was Sunday afternoon. Afterwards we went to Kori's grad party. Luke is her "other" boyfriend. Her boyfriend goes to another school and is on his senior trip - which is a cruise in the Caribbean. That would be lots of fun! So Luke is filling in for Trevor due to his absence this week.

The most important thing...

Luke learned a very important lesson last week during his bed time routine. Before bed we always read Luke a Bible story. On this particular evening Luke and Daddy made a fort on his bunk bed to do their reading in so I stayed out of things so they could have their guy time. During this Bible story Luke learned that the most important thing that he could do is to love God. He says all the time "I love God" and "Jesus came back from the dead". I am amazed at how much he knows to just be 2 years old.

As for other things going on since I last updated - We took some of our teenagers to the Acquire the Fire youth conference. We had a really good time, but got home incredibly late or should I say early Sunday morning. This is just a cute pic - I love this shirt. I always see little girl shirts that say "Sweet" and I always say that when I have a little girl she needs that shirt. Well, this is the first boy shirt that I have seen that says "Sweet". Just kind of a play off of our name! The weekend after Acquire the Fire we went back to Tulsa while Daniel was at a youth pastor conference. We hung out with Nana, Papa and Aunt Jen. We also had lunch with Sarah, Andrew and Heather.Sarah and Luke are so cute. Luke was tired when we got to McDonald's and it took him a little while to get down and play, but they ended up having a really good time.Last weekend was the prom for the town that we live in. Kori came by our house to get her picture taken with her other boyfriend.

You can't see it very good in this picture, but Luke likes to run around the house in his briefs and Lightning McQueen shoes. It is so cute!!!
On a different note, Daniel and I had hoped to begin an adoption from Vietnam soon. It looks like Vietnam and the US are terminating their adoption agreement on Sept. 1. This makes us both really sad. If they don't have things worked out by next summer, we are seriously considering beginning the adoption process from India. We are very excited about that possibility, but also sad about the children that will remain in orphanages because of the termination of adoptions between VN and the US. Please pray that they will be able to work things out and come up with a transparent adoption process.

A Quick Update...

I'm already slacking again... Here's a quick run down of what we've been up to.
At the end of March we spent the night with Granny and went to my Grandma's birthday party. Luke had lots of fun playing with cousins. Morganne introduced Luke to Elmo Play Station games. He has had loads of fun playing them at home. He is learning numbers and letters with the games.Makayla spent the night with us at Granny's. Kayla and Luke had so much fun playing together Fri. night and Saturday. Luke was asleep when we left and the first thing that he said when he woke up was - "Where's Kayla?".
We celebrated Daniel's 27th birthday. Happy Birthday Daniel!
Here is Luke with a student from our youth ministry. He's a pretty special boy!

Happy Easter!!!

Here's a picture of Luke sportin' his green on St. Patricks Day!
We were going to color our Easter eggs Monday evening, but when we got home Luke completely gave out. He only slept for about an hour so we were still able to have our fun and color our eggs.He has so much fun coloring eggs. He enjoyed it last year, but I think he had even more fun this year. We really didn't do anything else exciting until yesterday. One of the churches in town puts on a big Easter egg hunt. We decided to go to it on Saturday.Luke absolutely loves to hunt eggs. He loves the candy inside the egg even more! :)
Daniel didn't want to tell Luke that the Easter Bunny came, but something came last night and hid all of Luke's eggs and left presents. He really liked the candy in those eggs also. We had an egg hunt at church today. He got lots of eggs there!Someone was ready for a nap after all that fun!
Daniel has really been working with Luke about the real meaning of Easter. Luke can say that Jesus came back from the dead. I know he doesn't really know what that means, but it is so neat to hear him say it.
Dad Update - Dad was released from the hospital on Monday to go to his orthopedic surgeon appointment. They scheduled surgery for Friday. The surgery was supposed to be out patient. It went well, but Dad was in so much pain afterwards that they admitted him to the hospital. He was released on Saturday but is still in a lot of pain. Please pray for the pain to subside and for his body to heal.
Hope everyone had a great Easter!

We're Back!

Luke and I are back from a trip to check on Papa. We got there on Tuesday and the first thing that Luke did was throw his Elmos in Papa's lap to help him feel better. It was pretty cute. On Wednesday we went with Papa to the dentist. He got a decent report. He will have to have one crown and has about six chipped teeth that will need to be fixed. On Thursday Luke and I hung out at Nana and Papa's while Nana took Papa to the doctor. The orthopedic surgeon said that the cuts on his elbow were healing and he could see good tissue forming. He was hopeful that surgery could be done this week. (There has been a glitch - keep reading.) He also found out that his right wrist has ligament damage. I think that he is going to wait until his elbow gets fixed to work on the wrist. On Thursday afternoon dad had his stitches removed. Friday was an excellent day. The mission team came in a little after 10 pm. We all went up to the church to welcome them home.

My grandma and James came up on Saturday to check on dad. On Saturday morning when dad woke up we all knew something was wrong with his forehead. He called his dr. and his dr. said that his forehead was infected and called in antibiotics and a cream. Luke and I left around 2:30 to come home. I guess things got worse from there. When we left his eyes and forehead were a little bit swolen. By 10:00 pm dad's eyes were almost swolen shut. There is a nurse in their church that had been helping mom treat his forehead that day. The nurse said they needed to go to the hospital. Things get confusing from here. They did a CT Scan to see if the infection is in his skull, because it would be very dangerous if the infection went in his brain. I know the infection is down in his eye sockets. He was admitted to the hospital late Sat. night and is still there. He may still be there for a couple more days. Please pray that the infection would clear up. Also, my mom is near exhaustion. Please pray that she is able to stay healthy and take care of herself while caring for dad. Jennifer has been with them constantly also.
On to cute note - Luke thought that James needed to say "Cheese"!
Then James' tender needed to say "Cheese"!

Thanks for keeping us in your prayers!
